The objects of the Group shall be to advance the awareness and education of:
1. the public in the sciences through Astronomy with participation in workshops and outdoor events, thereby developing an
understanding of sciences;
2. children, young people and families by participation in science-based group activities;
3. the public and the wider UK community of amateur astronomers by the promotion of Galloway as a centre of excellence for
Astronomy.
4. encouragement of children and young people to gain an interest in the study of the sciences (through astronomy) as a possible
future career.
In furtherance thereof, the Group shall seek:
a) to improve tourism through the promotion of the Dark Sky Park and the surrounding region by holding an annual Star Camp.
b) to develop and promote other astronomy activities to celebrate the Dark Sky Park and surrounding area and thereby foster civic
pride and community spirit; and
c) to create opportunities for the local community to learn, develop and use skills and thereby improve their conditions of life.
d) create opportunities for local businesses.
Membership is open to all who are interested in the objects of the Galloway Dark Sky Events Group, by the completion of an
application form and its approval by the committee. Attendees of the Galloway Star Camp are automatically given membership of
the Group.
